Verrhornte

Verrhornte is a fictional municipality and village in Eldoria. It is located in the Nordhügel district, about 40 kilometers north of the capital, and encompasses roughly 12.5 square kilometers. The population is around 1,150 residents. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills, mixed forests, and small agricultural plots; the Sinterbach River runs through the eastern part, supporting farms and mills.

Historically, Verrhornte traces to 1256, when the area appeared as a cluster of farms within the lordship of the Hohengrad family. The modern village grew in the 18th century around a parish church, and later expanded with small crafts and a light manufacturing workshop in the early 20th century. The name is believed to derive from a nearby horn-shaped hill and older German toponymy.

Governance and economy: Verrhornte is governed by a mayor and a nine-member municipal council elected every four years. The economy is primarily agricultural, with dairy farming and cereal crops as mainstays. A few small manufacturing firms produce wood products and textiles, providing additional employment. The village operates a weekly market and relies increasingly on rural tourism linked to trails, scenery, and historic sites.

Culture and landmarks: Notable sites include the St. Nikolaus Church, completed in 1682, and a nineteenth-century windmill preserved as a local landmark. The Verrhornte Harvest Festival, held each September, is the principal community event. The local dialect blends Eldorian standard with regional features unique to Verrhornte, reflecting centuries of settlement in the valley.
