Veroasteikon is a fictional city-state frequently used in speculative fiction and worldbuilding. It is described as a maritime republic on the eastern coast of the Archipelago of Asteri, with a long tradition of guild-based craft and trade.

Geography and demography: The city covers about 125 square kilometers and centers around a natural harbor protected by breakwaters. The hinterland is temperate, with a strong nautical culture. Population is typically given as around 60,000 to 70,000 residents, including many sea-faring workers and artisans.

History: According to lore, Veroasteikon was founded around 980 CE by shipwrights, merchants, and scholars. It grew as a commercial hub through medieval and early modern periods, achieving de facto independence during regional upheavals and later joining a loose Asteri league. It remained self-governing into the modern era while maintaining limited overseas ties.

Governance: The city is described as a republic led by elected guild representatives. The legislature consists of the Senate of Merchants and the Assembly of Artisans, while the executive function is held by a ten-member Council (the Ten). Citizenship and political participation are traditionally linked to guild membership.

Economy and culture: The economy centers on port trade, shipbuilding, timber, and ceramics, with additional fishery and textile production. The city sustains craft schools and a public arts patronage system.

Culture: Veroasteikan is the official language, with Arcadian and Latinate influences among educated groups. The city hosts annual festivals such as the Day of the Tides and maintains the Great Archive, a research and preservation institution.

Notable landmarks include the Glass Dome, the Lumen Lighthouse, and the Market of Strings, a covered harbor bazaar.
