Verligte

Verligte is an Afrikaans word meaning "enlightened." It emerged in the early 20th century in South Africa, particularly within Afrikaans intellectual and political circles. The term was used to describe a group of individuals who advocated for a more progressive and modern approach to Afrikaner nationalism and culture. These verligte figures sought to reform and liberalize aspects of Afrikaner society, moving away from what they perceived as outdated or rigid traditionalism.
