Verias

Verias is a coastal city and the administrative capital of the Veridian Commonwealth on the eastern coast of the continent of Elysia. It serves as a political, economic, and cultural hub for the region, with a diversified economy and a long-standing maritime heritage.

Located at the mouth of the Veria River, Verias sits on a natural harbor protected by breakwaters. The city encompasses a historic core and modern district tracts along a temperate coast. Its landscape includes hillside neighborhoods, a waterfront promenade, and landmarks such as the Old Fort, the Grand Market, and the Crystal Gate civic complex.

Founded in the 9th century by seafaring settlers, Verias grew as a trade entrepôt. It passed through kingdoms, endured earthquakes in 1523 and 1793, and was rebuilt with stone architecture. In the 20th century it became the capital and expanded its port and university.

As of 2023, the city proper has about 520,000 residents. The population is ethnically diverse, with Verians, Aramites, and coastal migrants. Verian is the official language; several minority languages are spoken. Education is provided by the University of Verias and vocational institutes.

The port handles container traffic and ship repair, supporting logistics, fishing, and tourism. The service sector includes government, finance, and healthcare.

Cultural life centers on the Verias Opera House and the Festival of Lanterns, celebrating maritime heritage. The city also hosts museums, a botanical garden, universities, and a coastal promenade.

Verias is governed by an elected City Council and a mayor. It is served by Verias International Airport, a ring road, a passenger rail network, and urban tram lines. Public transit emphasizes sustainability.
