Verfehlungsquote

Verfehlungsquote is a statistical measure that expresses the share of observed violations or deviations from a defined standard relative to the total number of opportunities, cases, or observations. It is used to quantify non-fulfillment of rules, requirements, or expected performance in various fields.

The calculation is commonly stated as Verfehlungsquote = (Anzahl der Verfehlungen / Anzahl der Beobachtungen oder Gelegenheiten) × 100 Prozent. The choice of denominator depends on the context and may be the number of inspections, transactions, person-days, or trials. The measure is meaningful when the exposure or observation window is clearly defined.

Verfehlungsquoten appear in diverse areas such as compliance and governance, quality control, risk management, and law enforcement. For example, a company might track Verfehlungsquote to monitor rule violations within a compliance program; in manufacturing, it can reflect the rate of process deviations; in probation contexts, it may indicate violations of release conditions. A simple illustration: if 12 violations are found in 300 inspections, the Verfehlungsquote is 4%.

Interpretation and limitations: the value depends on data quality and reporting practices. Definitions of what constitutes a Verfehlung, the observation period, and the population must be explicit to enable valid comparisons. Underreporting, detection biases, or varying exposure can distort the metric. It is often complemented by other measures such as the Erfüllungsquote (fulfillment rate) or Fehlerrate to provide a fuller picture of performance and compliance.
