Verdragrecht, also known as treaty law, refers to the body of international law governing the creation, interpretation, application, and termination of treaties. Treaties are formal written agreements between sovereign states, or between states and international organizations, that are intended to create legal rights and obligations. The primary source of modern verdragrecht is the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties (VCLT), adopted in 1969, which codified many of the customary international law principles relating to treaties.
