Venymis

Venymis is a coined term used in speculative biology and science fiction to denote a hypothetical genus of intracellular symbionts. It has no formal taxonomic status and is not recognized in real-world biology.

The term is primarily used as a narrative or thought-experiment device to explore questions about endosymbiosis, energy metabolism, and host-microbe coevolution. In fiction, venymis organisms are depicted as micro-scale entities that live inside host cells and influence cellular processes from within.

Typical fictional characteristics include small, organelle-like bodies capable of altering host metabolism to optimize energy extraction, sometimes granting stress tolerance or new biochemical capabilities.
