Velenje

Velenje is a city in Slovenia, located in the Šale Valley in the northeastern part of the country. It is the fifth-largest city in Slovenia and the administrative seat of the Municipality of Velenje. The city is known for its industrial heritage, particularly in coal mining, and its modern urban planning.

The area has a history of human settlement dating back to prehistoric times. However, modern Velenje began to develop significantly in the mid-20th century with the discovery and exploitation of coal deposits.
