Vektorfüggvények

Vektorfüggvények, also known as vector-valued functions, are functions that map elements from one set to elements in a vector space. In simpler terms, they take an input and produce a vector as an output. The input can be a scalar or another vector.

A common type of vector function is one where the input is a scalar, often representing a parameter like time or a position along a curve. For instance, a parametric curve in three-dimensional space can be described by a vector function r(t) = <x(t), y(t), z(t)>, where t is the scalar parameter. As t varies, the endpoint of the vector r(t) traces out the curve.

Another important category is when the input is a vector, and the output is also a vector. This is frequently encountered in multivariable calculus and linear algebra. For example, a transformation from one vector space to another can be represented by a vector function. Linear transformations are a specific and widely studied type of such vector functions.

The study of vector functions involves concepts like derivatives and integrals, which are generalizations of their scalar counterparts. The derivative of a vector function can represent velocity or the tangent vector to a curve, while its integral can represent displacement or area. These operations are crucial in fields like physics, engineering, and computer graphics for modeling phenomena and understanding motion.
