Bacterial tissue infections are common and can range from localized abscesses to systemic bloodstream infections known as sepsis. Viral tissue infections can also manifest in various ways, such as hepatitis affecting the liver or encephalitis affecting the brain. Fungal infections can occur superficially, like athlete's foot on the skin, or deeply, affecting internal organs. Parasitic infections, like malaria, target specific tissues and organs.

The body's immune system plays a crucial role in fighting off these infections. However, compromised immune systems, such as those seen in individuals with HIV/AIDS, diabetes, or undergoing chemotherapy, are more susceptible to developing severe tissue infections. Diagnosis typically involves clinical examination, laboratory tests like blood cultures or tissue biopsies, and imaging studies. Treatment strategies vary widely depending on the causative agent and the affected tissue, often involving antibiotics for bacterial infections, antivirals for viral infections, antifungals for fungal infections, and antiparasitic drugs for parasitic infections. In some cases, surgical intervention may be necessary to drain abscesses or remove infected tissue. Prevention measures include maintaining good hygiene, vaccination, and prompt treatment of minor infections.
