Veerashaivism
Veerashaivism, also known as Lingayatism, is a Shaivite tradition originating in Karnataka, India. It emphasizes the worship of Shiva in the form of an ishtalinga, a portable lingam worn around the neck. Veerashaivism arose in the 12th century with the teachings of Basavanna, a social reformer and philosopher. The movement is characterized by its rejection of the caste system and its focus on egalitarianism. Veerashaivites believe that all individuals are equal in the eyes of Shiva and that spiritual liberation can be achieved through devotion and righteous action, regardless of social standing.
