Vedenkestävyysluokitus

Vedenkestävyysluokitus, often referred to as IP rating, is a standardized system used to classify the degree of protection provided by electrical enclosures against ingress of solid objects and liquids. The system is maintained by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and is widely adopted globally.

The rating consists of two digits. The first digit indicates the level of protection against solid foreign objects, ranging from 0 (no protection) to 6 (dust-tight). The second digit denotes the level of protection against water, ranging from 0 (no protection) to 9K (protection against high-pressure and high-temperature water jets). For example, an IP67 rating means the device is dust-tight and protected against immersion in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.

Understanding the IP rating is crucial when selecting electronic devices for specific environments. Devices used outdoors, in bathrooms, or in industrial settings require higher levels of water and dust protection than those intended for indoor, dry use. The rating helps consumers and professionals make informed decisions to ensure the longevity and safety of their equipment by preventing damage caused by environmental factors. Manufacturers clearly mark the IP rating on their products or packaging.
