The name blends the fictional locality Veaparanda with the suffix -dust, reflecting its typical powdered appearance when exposed in field samples.

In the fictional setting, Veaparandust forms when hydrothermal fluids alter volcanic rock, producing a layered microstructure that yields a soft, chalky luster. It is said to occur as disseminated grains in pegmatitic pockets and as coating on fracture surfaces in quartz-rich veins. The mineral is described as commonly found alongside quartz, feldspar, and magnetite in veins and stockworks.

Veaparandust is described as having a pale violet to gray color, a vitreous to pearly luster, and a Mohs hardness around 5.
