Vaxtish

Vaxtish is a constructed language designed for worldbuilding and speculative fiction. Originating in online conlang communities in the early 2010s, it appears in several fictional settings to convey the culture and atmosphere of the imagined Vaxt region. Vaxtish is not a natural language; it was developed for narrative clarity and aesthetic effect, with an active learner community.

Phonology and script: Vaxtish has consonants p, b, t, d, k, g, f, s, ʃ, h, m, n, l, r and vowels a, e, i, o, u, with open syllables and simple vowel harmony in suffixes. Primary stress falls on the penultimate syllable. The writing system is Latin-based with diacritics for length and palatalization; older texts sometimes show a runic-like script in archives.

Grammar: Vaxtish is largely agglutinative and typically SVO. Nouns inflect for number and case (nominative, accusative, dative). Verbs encode tense and aspect with suffixes and mark mood and evidentiality through affixes. Adjectives usually follow the noun; determiners precede it. Pronouns distinguish inclusive and exclusive forms in the first person plural.

Lexicon and dialects: Core vocabulary covers family, nature, technology, and daily life. There are two dialects, Northern Vaxtish and Southern Vaxtish, with phonological and lexical variation but high mutual intelligibility among learners. The lexicon includes occasional loanwords from neighboring fictional languages.

Usage: Vaxtish is used in role-playing games, fan fiction, and language-learning communities. Materials include a grammar sketch, a learner dictionary, and example corpora maintained online.
