Vaubanfortifikációk refers to a system of fortification designs developed by Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, a renowned French military engineer of the 17th century. These fortifications were revolutionary for their time, significantly influencing military architecture and siege warfare for over a century. Vauban's innovations centered on creating strongpoints that could withstand the increasingly powerful artillery of the era.

Key elements of Vauban's designs include the use of bastions, which are projecting structures that allow defenders to fire upon attackers from multiple angles, creating enfilading fire. He also perfected the concept of a "flèche," a simple triangular outwork. Vauban's fortifications were characterized by their geometric precision, emphasizing interlocking fields of fire and multiple lines of defense to slow down and ultimately repel enemy assaults. He advocated for low, thick walls, less susceptible to cannon fire, and incorporated terrepleins (earthen ramparts) for added protection.
