Varudzhi

Varudzhi is a town and municipality in the eastern province of Eldoria. It sits along the Varud River, about 45 kilometers northeast of the provincial capital. As of 2023, the population is estimated at 11,800. The local economy combines agriculture, small-scale manufacturing, and services, with the town serving as a market center for surrounding villages. Varudzhi hosts an annual Harvest Festival that attracts visitors from the region.

The name Varudzhi is believed to derive from the Varudhi language, meaning "river bend" or "where the river turns."

The town lies on a flat to gently rolling plain with a temperate climate characterized by warm summers and cool winters. The surrounding landscape is primarily agricultural, with patches of woodland and fruit orchards. The Varud River provides irrigation and a modest fishing resource.

The first written reference to Varudzhi dates to the 14th century, when it functioned as a local trading outpost. It developed around a market square and a wooden bridge and expanded through the medieval period. In the 19th century it was incorporated into the modern state framework and later reorganized as a municipality.

Varudzhi is linguistically diverse. The majority speaks Eldorian, with Varudhi being spoken by a small minority. Local traditions emphasize harvest customs, cuisine based on grains and fruit, and crafts. The town maintains a small museum and a cultural center.

Varudzhi is governed by a municipal council led by a directly elected mayor. It is connected by regional roads and a railway station on the Eldoria Inland Line, with regular services to the capital and nearby towns. Public services include a library, a primary school, and a health clinic.
