Varmforzinking

Varmforzinking is a term used in some industrial contexts to describe a zinc coating process in which a zinc layer is applied to steel parts at elevated temperatures, producing a protective coating. The name derives from varm (warm) and förzinkning (zinc coating) in Nordic languages. The term is not standardized and may be used variably, often overlapping with hot-dip galvanizing or warm zinc plating.

Process overview: The surface is cleaned (degreased, pickled if needed). Then the part is exposed to a zinc-containing bath or alloy at a sustained elevated temperature, designed to deposit a zinc layer through immersion or contact. Temperature ranges and dwell times vary by facility; exact parameters are not universally defined. The aim is to achieve adequate coating thickness, good adhesion, and uniform coverage on complex geometries while limiting thermal distortion compared with conventional hot-dip methods.

Advantages and limitations: Proponents cite improved edge coverage, smoother surfaces, reduced warping, and easier handling of large or complex parts. However, varmforzinking is less standardized than traditional galvanizing, with fewer published specifications and quality control criteria. Compatibility with post-assembly finishing and steel alloys can vary, and coating thickness control may be more process-dependent.

Applications and status: The approach is used for corrosion protection of steel components in construction, engineering, and manufacturing sectors where distortion control is important. It remains less standardized than hot-dip galvanizing, and practitioners should refer to supplier documentation and applicable standards when evaluating suitability.
