Varadvinayak

Varadvinayak is a prominent Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha, located in the Mahad village of Raigad district, Maharashtra, India. It is one of the Ashtavinayak shrines, which are a pilgrimage circuit of eight Ganesha temples in the region. The temple is renowned for its self-emanated idol of Ganesha, believed to have been discovered in the vicinity centuries ago.

The idol of Lord Ganesha at Varadvinayak is unique as it is a Swayambhu (self-originated) idol. It is in a seated posture with its trunk turned to the left. The temple architecture is simple, with a stone structure and a tiled roof. The idol is housed in a sanctum sanctorum, and devotees can offer prayers and circumambulate the shrine.

According to local legends, the temple dates back to several centuries. It is said that the idol was found in a nearby lake. The temple's name, Varadvinayak, translates to "giver of boons and wishes," reflecting the belief that Lord Ganesha here fulfills the desires of his devotees. The temple attracts a large number of pilgrims, especially during Ganesh Chaturthi and other auspicious occasions related to Lord Ganesha. The Ashtavinayak Yatra, a pilgrimage to all eight temples, is a significant spiritual journey for many devotees. The atmosphere around the temple is serene and devotional.
