Valumajärjestelyt

Valumajärjestelyt are a type of seismic distress signal used by traditionalgger groups in Lapland, Finland. The signals consist of a series of loud, low-frequency sounds created by knocking on a thin metal sheet or antenna with a tool, usually a Mallemorin pole.

The valumajärjestelyt were traditionally used as a warning system to alert other members of the group of potential threats, such as predators or incoming aircraft during World War II. The signals could be heard from a long distance and were used to signal the start or end of hunting trips, as well as to warn of any dangers.

The sounds produced by the valumajärjestelyt are low-pitched and can be felt as much as they are heard. They are typically loud enough to be heard for miles and were an essential tool for communication in areas where visibility was poor and radio communication was not available.

The tradition of using valumajärjestelyt declined with the introduction of more modern forms of communication, but it is still observed by some groups in Lapland as a way to connect with their cultural heritage.
