Valmare

Valmare is a coastal city and regional capital in the fictional nation of Valora. Located at the mouth of the Valmere River on Valora's western coast, it hosts a major natural harbor and serves as a center for maritime commerce and administration.

The city covers about 150 square kilometers and rises from a harbor plain into low hills to the east. It has a temperate maritime climate with mild winters, cool summers, and year-round precipitation. The harbor district remains a focal point for trade, ship repair, and logistics.

Valmare began as a medieval trading settlement in the 9th century and expanded through shipbuilding and port trade. It modernized its harbor in the 20th century to handle international shipping and logistics.

The economy is anchored in the port and logistics sector, complemented by manufacturing, fishing, and tourism. A growing tech and services cluster, supported by local universities, adds diversification and resilience.

As of recent estimates, Valmare has around 120,000 residents. The city is multilingual, with Valoran as the primary language and several regional dialects. Cultural life centers on the Old Town, the Maritime Museum, and the annual Sea Festival.

Governance is by a City Council led by a mayor. Valmare is the administrative seat of its county within Valora and participates in national decision-making. The city is linked by rail, road, and a nearby international airport.
