Valgusneeldumise, also known as valgus ingestion, is a term sometimes used to describe an unusual or abnormal way of swallowing. This term is not a standard medical diagnosis but is sometimes used colloquially to describe a swallowing pattern where the tongue moves upwards and outwards rather than the typical backward and downward motion during the oral phase of swallowing. This can sometimes be associated with difficulties in bolus propulsion, the process of moving food or liquid from the mouth to the pharynx.

In typical swallowing, the tongue forms a groove to direct the bolus posteriorly and initiates the pharyngeal phase by pressing against the palate. Valgusneeldumise, if observed, suggests a deviation from this coordinated muscular action. This atypical movement might lead to incomplete clearing of the oral cavity or difficulties initiating the swallow reflex. It is important to note that the term itself does not indicate a specific underlying pathology but rather describes a potential observable behavior during the act of eating or drinking.
