Valenciaorbitálisok, often translated as valence orbitals, are the electrons and atomic orbitals involved in the formation of chemical bonds. These are the outermost electrons of an atom, residing in the highest energy levels. During chemical reactions, it is these valence electrons that are transferred or shared between atoms to create new molecular structures. The specific arrangement and energy of these orbitals dictate the bonding properties and chemical behavior of an element.

The concept of valence orbitals is fundamental to understanding chemical bonding theories such as valence bond theory and molecular orbital theory. Valence bond theory focuses on the overlap of atomic orbitals to form sigma and pi bonds. Molecular orbital theory, on the other hand, describes the combination of atomic orbitals to form delocalized molecular orbitals that span the entire molecule. The number of valence electrons an atom possesses is a key factor in determining its position in the periodic table and its typical valency, or the number of bonds it can form. For example, elements in Group 1 have one valence electron and tend to form one bond, while elements in Group 17 have seven valence electrons and commonly form one bond to achieve a stable electron configuration.
