Valan

Valan is a coastal city and regional capital in the fictional realm of Eryndor. It lies on the eastern shore of the Valen River, facing the Lyran Sea, and serves as the administrative center of Kyra Province. The city encompasses roughly 115 square kilometers and had an estimated population of 132,000 in 2022. Valan is a hub for maritime commerce, logistics, and light manufacturing, with a growing technology sector focused on sustainable urban services.

Historically, Valan developed as a trading post in the 9th century, obtained town rights in 1118, and achieved city status in the 13th century. It grew around a natural harbor and a defensive wall. The 17th and 18th centuries brought architectural expansion and increased trade diversification; the 19th century saw modernization through rail links and public utilities.

Governance is by a mayor and a 22-member city council. The city operates under a constitutional framework compatible with national law, with autonomy in zoning, education, and local services.

Economy and infrastructure include a busy port handling bulk and container traffic, supported by nearby free-trade zones. Valan University and the Polytechnic Institute attract students in marine engineering, urban planning, and information systems. Public transit consists of a city bus network and a light-rail line.

Culture and demographics: Valan hosts the Lantern Festival and preserves landmarks such as the Old Fortress, Market District, and Cathedral of St. Elara. The population is diverse, with major languages including common and Valenese, and communities representing various traditions.
