Vaikom
Vaikom is a town located in the Kottayam district of Kerala, India. It is situated on the eastern side of Vembanad Lake, which is the longest lake in India. Vaikom is renowned for its historical significance, particularly its association with the Vaikom Satyagraha, a pivotal moment in the fight against caste discrimination in India. This movement, which took place between 1924 and 1925, aimed to secure the right of lower-caste individuals to use the roads leading to the famous Vaikom Mahadeva Temple. Mahatma Gandhi lent his support to the Satyagraha, which eventually led to the opening of temple roads to all castes.
