Vahetatavust

Vahetatavust is a term used to describe the property that elements or components can be swapped or substituted without changing the external behavior, outcome, or essential properties of a system, model, or dataset. It implies a level of substitutability where identities of individual parts are less important than the overall function or distribution.

In statistics, exchangeability (vahetatavus, in Estonian) refers to a sequence of random variables whose joint distribution is invariant under finite permutations. In other words, the order of observations does not affect their joint behavior. Independent and identically distributed sequences are exchangeable, and de Finetti’s theorem provides a representation of exchangeable sequences as mixtures of i.i.d. processes. Exchangeability is a foundational concept in Bayesian modeling and probabilistic reasoning.

In engineering and computer science, vahetatavust manifests as interchangeable parts and modular design. Components that can be swapped without redesigning the system improve maintainability, scalability, and production efficiency.
