The term combines a fictional geographic root with the common suffix used for natural products. Chemistry and structure: The vaateripustin core is described as a cyclic lactone framework derived from polyketide biosynthesis, with variable side chains that may include hydroxy, methoxy, or methyl groups. Some depictions show a fused ring system and conjugated double bonds; the exact structure is depicted diversely across sources but is generally oriented toward lipophilic, membrane-active molecules.
