The VESA standard, formally known as the Video Electronics Standards Association mounting interface standard, defines a set of common screw hole patterns and dimensions for mounting flat-panel monitors and televisions to stands or wall mounts. This standardization ensures compatibility between displays and mounting hardware from different manufacturers, simplifying the process of setting up home entertainment systems and workstations.

The VESA standard is characterized by the distance in millimeters between the mounting holes on the back of the display, measured horizontally and vertically. Common VESA patterns include VESA 75x75, VESA 100x100, VESA 200x100, and VESA 200x200, among others. Larger displays often utilize VESA patterns with larger numbers, reflecting their greater weight and size.

When purchasing a monitor or TV mount, it is crucial to check the VESA compatibility. Manufacturers typically list the VESA pattern supported by their displays. Similarly, mount manufacturers specify the VESA patterns their products are designed to accommodate. By matching the VESA specifications of both the display and the mount, users can ensure a secure and stable connection.
