In Estonia and other regions, key sizes are often categorized based on national or international standards. For example, the most common key size in residential and commercial locks is the "standard key," which generally measures around 60–70 millimeters in length and 6 millimeters in blade thickness. However, variations exist depending on the lock manufacturer and the specific type of lock mechanism, such as pin-tumbler locks, lever locks, or wafer locks.

For instance, European keys often adhere to the DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung) standards, while American keys may follow ANSI (American National Standards Institute) specifications.
