Vääntökyky

Vääntökyky refers to the rotational force or torque that an engine or motor can produce. It is a measure of the twisting power an engine has, often expressed in Newton-meters (Nm) or pound-feet (lb-ft). Higher vääntökyky generally means a stronger engine that can more easily accelerate a vehicle from a standstill or climb hills.

In the context of internal combustion engines, vääntökyky is generated by the combustion of fuel and the subsequent force applied to the crankshaft. The torque curve of an engine illustrates how vääntökyky varies with engine speed (RPM). Some engines produce peak torque at low RPM, making them suitable for towing or heavy-duty applications, while others achieve peak torque at higher RPMs, contributing to a sportier feel.

For electric motors, vääntökyky is also a crucial characteristic, often available almost instantly from zero RPM. This immediate torque is a significant advantage of electric powertrains, contributing to their rapid acceleration.
