Uziza
Uziza, scientifically known as Piper guineense, is a tropical vine belonging to the Piperaceae family, the same family as black pepper. It is native to West Africa and is widely cultivated and used in the region for its aromatic leaves and seeds. The plant is characterized by its heart-shaped leaves and clusters of small, round berries that ripen to a dark red or black color.
The leaves of the uziza plant are a popular culinary ingredient, particularly in Nigerian and Ghanaian cuisine.
Uziza seeds, also known as Benin pepper or Ashanti pepper, are similar in appearance to black peppercorns
