Uuikvormingus

Uuikvormingus, also known as uuik formation or uuik genesis, is a geological process that occurs in the Baltic Sea region, particularly in Estonia. The term "uuik" refers to a unique type of coastal landform characterized by its steep, vertical cliffs and the presence of a distinctive layer of gravel and sand. This layer is often found at the base of the cliffs and is believed to have been deposited by ancient seas during the last glacial period.

The formation of uuikvormingus is closely linked to the post-glacial transgression, a period when the sea level rose rapidly following the retreat of the glaciers. As the sea level rose, it eroded the coastal landscape, creating the steep cliffs that are characteristic of uuiks. The gravel and sand layer at the base of the cliffs is thought to have been deposited during this period, as the rising sea carried sediment with it.

Uuikvormingus is a relatively recent geological process, with the majority of uuiks forming between 8,000 and 4,000 years ago. The process is ongoing in some areas, with new uuiks continuing to form as the sea level continues to rise. The unique characteristics of uuiks make them an important subject of study for geologists and coastal scientists, as they provide valuable insights into the geological history of the region and the ongoing processes that shape its coastline.
