Usutavas

Usutavas is a small coastal municipality in the fictional region of Valoria, located along the Usuta River delta and facing the Gulf of Nore. The name derives from the Usutan language, meaning "water's edge." The area covers about 22 square kilometers and had an estimated population of 11,500 in 2020. The economy combines fishing, agriculture, and services, with tourism growing after the 2000s.

Geography: Usutavas lies on a sheltered bay with mangrove wetlands and a network of creeks; the terrain is flat to gently rolling, with a rainy season from May to October.

History: The settlement emerged in the 17th century as a small fishing outpost and trading point. It received municipal status in 1892. The harbor was modernized in the 1980s, spurring modest growth. In the late 1990s, a conservation program protected several mangrove stands.

Governance: Usutavas is governed by a mayor and a nine-member council elected for four-year terms.

Culture and landmarks: The town is known for the Usutavas Lighthouse, the Old Market Hall, and the River and Sea Festival held each July. Local cuisine emphasizes seafood, cassava, and tropical fruits. A protected nature reserve adjacent to the coast is a draw for birdwatchers.

Infrastructure: The town is connected by a regional road network and has a small harbor with fishing and tour boats. A regional hospital and several primary schools serve residents, with the nearest airport located about 40 kilometers away.
