Upotusjuottaminen, also known as dip soldering, is a soldering process where a component or a substrate is submerged into a bath of molten solder. This technique is commonly used for soldering through-hole components onto printed circuit boards (PCBs) or for soldering wires and other metallic parts. The molten solder bath provides a consistent and efficient way to create electrical and mechanical connections.

The process typically involves preparing the surfaces to be soldered, often by cleaning and applying flux to prevent oxidation. The PCB or component is then passed over or dipped into the molten solder. The heat from the solder melts any solder pre-applied to the joint area or alloys with the base metals, forming a strong bond. Wave soldering, a variation of dip soldering, uses a wave of molten solder to achieve continuous soldering of multiple joints as the PCB passes over it.

Upotusjuottaminen can be performed manually or automated. Manual dip soldering involves dipping individual components into a solder pot, while automated systems, like wave soldering machines, are used for mass production. The temperature of the solder bath, the immersion time, and the type of solder alloy are critical parameters that need to be controlled to ensure reliable solder joints. This method is effective for achieving high-volume production with good quality, provided the process parameters are well-managed.
