Unionoids
Unionoids are a fictional taxonomic concept used in speculative biology and worldbuilding to describe a group of modular, fusion-capable aquatic invertebrates. The name hints at their social behavior, in which many small units join to form larger, cohesive bodies known as unions. They are not part of any real biological lineage.
