Undertill

Undertill is a term that describes the practice of working the soil beneath the surface, often without disturbing the topsoil layer. This technique can be employed in various agricultural and horticultural contexts. One common method associated with undertill is subsoiling, which involves using a specialized plow or implement to break up compacted layers of soil deep below the surface. This process aims to improve water infiltration, aeration, and root penetration without inverting or significantly mixing the soil layers.

The primary goal of undertilling is to alleviate compaction, a condition that can hinder plant growth by restricting root development and water movement.
