Unconformitäten

Unconformities are significant gaps in the geological record that represent periods of erosion or non-deposition. There are three main types of unconformities:

3. Nonconformities are unconformities where sedimentary rocks lie directly on top of igneous or metamorphic rocks. This indicates that there was a period of erosion or non-deposition before the deposition of the sedimentary rocks.

Unconformities are often identified by the presence of a layer of soil or sediment that is not continuous across the unconformity, or by the presence of fossils that are not continuous across the unconformity. They are also important for understanding the timing of geological events, such as the formation of mountains or the deposition of sedimentary rocks.
