Ultraäänitestauslaite

Ultraäänitestauslaite is a Finnish term referring to an ultrasonic testing device. These devices are employed in non-destructive testing (NDT) to detect internal flaws or analyze material properties using high-frequency sound waves. The principle of operation involves transmitting ultrasonic pulses into the material being tested and then analyzing the reflected or transmitted waves.

An ultrasonic testing device typically consists of a transducer, a pulser/receiver, and a display unit. The transducer, often a piezoelectric element, converts electrical energy into mechanical vibrations (ultrasonic waves) and vice versa. The pulser generates the electrical pulse to excite the transducer, and the receiver detects the returning ultrasonic signals. The display unit, usually an oscilloscope or a dedicated screen, visualizes the received signals, often as a waveform representing the time-of-flight and amplitude of the echoes.

Various testing modes exist, including pulse-echo, where reflections from flaws and back walls are detected, and through-transmission, where the sound is transmitted through the material and received on the opposite side. The speed and attenuation of the ultrasonic waves are influenced by the material's composition, structure, and the presence of defects such as cracks, voids, or inclusions.
