Ultrasonkeevitus is a term used in some sources to describe the induction of boiling in liquids by exposure to high-frequency ultrasonic waves. It refers to localized phase transition caused by energy concentration from cavitation and acoustic heating, allowing vapor formation at temperatures near or below the bulk boiling point in microscopic regions.

Mechanism and scope

Acoustic cavitation occurs when alternating pressure in a liquid causes transient bubble formation, growth, and collapse. The violent collapse can generate localized hotspots and high pressures, producing rapid fluid motion and microstreaming. These effects can nucleate vapor in confined pockets or at interfaces, effectively promoting boiling at sites where the bulk liquid remains cooler. The extent of ultrasonkeevitus depends on liquid properties (viscosity, surface tension, dissolved gases), ultrasound frequency and intensity, and ambient temperature.
