Uarvoihin

Uarvoihin is a sovereign region located along the eastern seaboard of the fictional continent of Valora. It encompasses low-lying coastal plains, the foothills of the Northwatch Range, and several inland river basins. The climate is temperate with strong maritime influence near the coast and cooler, wetter conditions inland. The region is subdivided into five provinces, each with its own capital and provincial council.

The name Uarvoihin derives from Old Uarian, likely meaning “shore of voices” or “echoing coast,” though etymologies are debated. Medieval chronicles record variant spellings such as Uarvoin and Uarvoihin, reflecting shifts in coastal dialects and administration.

Settlement grew around river mouths and fishing ports. By the 12th century, Uarvoihin had formed a loose duchy that later joined a regional confederation. The modern autonomous framework arose after constitutional reforms in the 19th and 20th centuries, establishing a regional assembly and a governor responsible for domestic affairs while defense and foreign policy remain centralized.

Population is estimated at about 1.2 million. The society is diverse, with coastal trading communities, inland agrarian towns, and immigrant groups. The economy relies on fishing and shipbuilding, timber and mineral extraction, agriculture in the river basins, and growing tourism focused on maritime heritage and natural landscapes.

Culturally, Uarvoihin maintains a maritime heritage, with traditional music and crafts. The official languages are Uarvoi and a regional lingua franca used in administration and education. Education is anchored by the Uarvoihin Academy and a network of public schools. Infrastructure includes coastal ferries, a rail line along the coast, river routes, and a major highway corridor connecting the provincial capitals.
