Tõeväärtuste

Tõeväärtuste, meaning "truth values" in Estonian, is a fundamental concept in logic and computer science. Truth values represent the state of a proposition or statement, indicating whether it is true or false. In classical logic, there are typically two truth values: true (often represented as T or 1) and false (often represented as F or 0).

These truth values are assigned to simple declarative sentences, known as propositions. For example, the proposition "The sky is blue" has the truth value "true" under normal conditions. Conversely, "2 + 2 = 5" has the truth value "false."

Logical operations, such as AND, OR, and NOT, are defined based on how they affect the truth values of their operands. For instance, the AND operation between two propositions results in true only if both propositions are true. The NOT operation inverts the truth value of a single proposition; if a proposition is true, its negation is false, and vice versa.

In fields like Boolean algebra and digital electronics, these two truth values are directly mapped to electrical states, with "true" often corresponding to a high voltage and "false" to a low voltage. This correspondence allows for the implementation of complex logical functions using electronic circuits. The concept of truth values forms the bedrock of reasoning, enabling the evaluation of arguments and the design of computational systems.
