Täiskongruentsus

Täiskongruentsus, sometimes translated as full congruence or complete congruence, is a term used in psychology, particularly in the work of Carl Rogers. It describes a state of being where an individual's experience of themselves is in perfect alignment with their actual experiences. This means there is no significant gap between how a person perceives themselves and the reality of their feelings, thoughts, and actions.

In a state of täiskongruentsus, a person is open to their experiences, both positive and negative, without distorting or denying them. They are aware of their emotions and can accept them as valid. This leads to a greater sense of self-awareness and authenticity. Rogers believed that this state is a fundamental aspect of psychological well-being and a key goal of the therapeutic process.

Incongruence, on the other hand, occurs when there is a discrepancy between the self-concept and actual experience. This can lead to feelings of anxiety, defensiveness, and a lack of genuine connection with oneself and others. For example, someone who believes they are always happy might deny or suppress feelings of sadness, leading to incongruence. Achieving täiskongruentsus is seen as a process of moving towards greater self-acceptance and a more integrated sense of self.
