Tähtienmuodostusalueiden, often translated as star-forming regions or stellar nurseries, are interstellar clouds of dust and gas where stars are born. These vast nebulae are the cosmic cradles that provide the raw materials for stellar evolution. The process begins when a region within a molecular cloud, typically a dense clump, becomes gravitationally unstable. As this material collapses under its own gravity, it heats up and begins to rotate. A protostar forms at the center, accreting more mass from its surroundings. Eventually, the core of the protostar becomes hot and dense enough to initiate nuclear fusion, marking the birth of a true star.
