Tynemouth

Tynemouth is a coastal town in the Metropolitan Borough of North Tyneside, Tyne and Wear, England. It lies on the north bank of the River Tyne at its estuary and fronts the North Sea, forming a headland that overlooks the river's mouth. The area is known for its historic fortress complex and long sandy beaches.

The settlement grew around Tynemouth Priory and Castle, a religious site established in the 7th century by Benedictine monks. The priory ruins crown the headland, with later medieval fortifications and Tudor-era coastal defenses extending the site's significance. From the 19th century, Tynemouth developed as a popular seaside resort, with promenades, hotels, and a thriving High Street that serves residents and visitors alike.
