Tyks

Tyks, short for Turun yliopistollinen keskussairaala (Turku University Hospital), is a hospital in Turku, Finland. It serves as the flagship hospital of the Varsinais-Suomen sairaanhoitopiiri (Southwestern Finland Hospital District) and as the central teaching hospital for the University of Turku.

The hospital provides tertiary and specialized care across a wide range of medical fields. Its departments cover oncology, cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and intensive care, and it maintains comprehensive emergency and trauma services. Tyks acts as a major regional referral centre. As a teaching hospital, it hosts medical education for students and residents and supports clinical research and trials in collaboration with the university.

The Tyks network comprises the main Turku campus and several regional facilities that deliver services throughout Southwest Finland. The hospital is a central resource for patient care, training, and health-system development in the region.

Over the years Tyks has expanded its facilities and modernization to increase capacity, improve patient safety, and integrate digital health and advanced diagnostics into routine clinical practice.
