Tyhjiökomponenttien is a Finnish term that translates to "vacuum components" in English. This refers to a broad category of electronic devices that operate in a vacuum. These components were historically crucial in the development of electronics and are still used in some specialized applications.

The most well-known type of vacuum component is the vacuum tube, also known as an electron tube or thermionic valve. Vacuum tubes control the flow of electrons in a vacuum between electrodes. This control allows them to amplify signals, switch circuits, and generate radio frequencies. Early radios, televisions, and computers all relied heavily on vacuum tubes. Examples include diodes, triodes, tetrodes, and pentodes.

Other types of vacuum components exist beyond thermionic valves. For instance, cathode ray tubes (CRTs), used in older televisions and computer monitors, are also vacuum components that use an electron beam to create an image on a phosphorescent screen. X-ray tubes, used in medical imaging and industrial applications, also operate under vacuum conditions to generate X-rays.

While solid-state electronics, such as transistors and integrated circuits, have largely replaced vacuum components in mainstream applications due to their smaller size, lower power consumption, and greater reliability, vacuum components still find use in high-power radio transmitters, microwave ovens (magnetrons), and some specialized scientific and industrial equipment. The unique characteristics of vacuum operation, such as their ability to handle very high voltages and frequencies, maintain their relevance in specific niches.
