Turok

Turok is a video game franchise created in the late 1990s by Acclaim Entertainment. The series centers on Tal'Set, a Native American hunter who travels through time using a Chronoscepter to survive in a Lost Land populated by dinosaurs, alien foes, and other threats. The games are primarily first-person shooters that blend action with exploration and puzzle elements.

The first title, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, released in 1997 for Nintendo 64 and PC. It established the core conceit of battling dinosaurs and other creatures with a variety of weapons, starting with a bow and progressing to firearms and exotic gear. Turok 2: Seeds of Evil followed in 1998, expanding the weapon roster, level design, and enemy variety, and is often cited for its technical ambition on the platform. Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion arrived in 2000, continuing the series on Nintendo 64 with refined pacing and gameplay.

In 2002, a multiplatform entry titled Turok: Evolution was released, offering a rebooted narrative and updated mechanics for newer hardware, including GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. The franchise received another major reimagining in 2008 with Turok, published by Sega and developed by Propaganda Games for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. This reboot presented a modernized take on the setting and protagonist and adopted a darker, more cinematic tone; it received mixed reviews.

Since the 2008 title, there have been no major new installments, and the license has seen periods of inactivity as ownership and development priorities changed. The Turok series is remembered for its early fusion of dinosaur-filled environments with first-person shooter action and for contributing to the popular image of prehistoric adventures in video games.
