Turintis

Turintis is a Lithuanian present active participle formed from the verb tureti, meaning to have. It functions as an adjective or participle, describing a subject that possesses something or is characterized by having a particular quality. In use, turintis can modify a noun directly or appear in a predicative construction, and it agrees with the noun in gender and number.

Morphology and forms. The masculine singular form is turintis; the feminine singular is turinti. In the plural, masculine is turintys and feminine is turinčios. The participle can combine with nouns to express possession, for example, a person who has a certain attribute or property. Common phrases include turintis daug patirties (having a lot of experience) or moteris, turinti gilias žinias (a woman with deep knowledge).

Usage notes. Turintis is typically used to describe a subject’s current state of possession or characteristic. It is distinct from the past participle forms that indicate completed possession or prior conditions, and from other constructions used to express ongoing states. In Lithuanian grammar, turintis can function attributively within noun phrases, as well as predicatively in sentences, often after the noun it describes or within relative clauses.
