Tuotantotekijät, or factors of production, are the essential inputs used in the process of creating goods and services. Economists generally categorize them into four main types: land, labor, capital, and entrepreneurship.

Land refers to all natural resources available for production. This includes not only the physical land itself but also all renewable and non-renewable resources found on, above, and below the earth's surface, such as water, minerals, forests, and air. The payment for the use of land is rent.

Labor encompasses the human effort, both physical and mental, that is applied to the production process. This includes the skills, knowledge, and effort of all workers, from factory laborers to highly specialized professionals. The compensation for labor is wages and salaries.

Capital, in an economic sense, refers to man-made goods that are used to produce other goods and services. This includes machinery, tools, buildings, equipment, and infrastructure. It is distinct from financial capital, which is the money used to purchase physical capital. The return on capital is interest.

Entrepreneurship is the human factor that organizes the other factors of production, takes risks, and innovates to create new products or processes. Entrepreneurs identify opportunities, combine land, labor, and capital, and bear the uncertainty of the business venture. The reward for entrepreneurship is profit. These four factors are fundamental to understanding how economies function and how wealth is generated.
