Tuotantotekijät, often translated as factors of production, are the basic elements used to produce goods and services in an economy. These are the fundamental inputs that businesses combine to create the output that consumers demand. Traditionally, economists have identified three primary factors: land, labor, and capital.

Land in this context refers to all natural resources available, including not just physical ground but also forests, water, minerals, and the atmosphere. It represents the raw materials and physical space necessary for production. Labor encompasses all human effort, both physical and mental, that is contributed to the production process. This includes the skills, knowledge, and effort of workers at all levels. Capital, in economics, is distinct from financial capital. It refers to manufactured goods that are used to produce other goods and services. Examples include machinery, tools, buildings, and infrastructure.

In modern economic thought, a fourth factor, entrepreneurship, is often included. Entrepreneurship involves the innovation, risk-taking, and organization required to combine the other factors of production effectively. Entrepreneurs identify opportunities, develop new products or services, and manage the complex process of bringing them to market. The efficient allocation and combination of these production factors are crucial for economic growth and prosperity.
