Tunnetiloilla

Tunnetiloilla is a Finnish term used to discuss emotional states and their relation to spaces, experiences, and artistic expressions. The base word tunnetila means an emotional state or mood, formed from tunne (feeling) and tila (state or space). The form tunnetiloilla commonly signals “in the emotional states” or “across emotional states,” and is used descriptively rather than as a fixed technical label.

In culture, design, and therapy, tunnetiloilla appears as a concept or framing device for projects that explore how environments influence mood or how emotions shape perception of spaces. In educational and therapeutic contexts it can describe experiences that unfold while a person moves through different tunnetiloja, or states of feeling, within a session or activity.

Applications span multiple domains. In the arts, an installation might be described as guiding visitors through rooms that evoke different tunnetiloja, such as calm, tension, or reflection. In architecture and interior design, the idea can inform spaces intended to support emotional regulation or empathy, acknowledging that mood shifts affect how people experience light, sound, and form.
